The NEO PI-R is internationally recognised as the ‘gold standard’ instrument with which to measure personality. The five broad domains measured are Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness to Experience, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. Each of these five domains is divided into a further six facets, meaning there are thirty areas of personality which predict employees’ work behaviour including leadership style, team style, decision-making and stress management.
About the NEO PI-R
The NEO PI-R was developed by Costa, P.T. and McCrae, R. and is available from Hogrefe Ltd as a 240-item questionnaire either online or by paper and pencil. The current UK Edition was published in 2005.
What’s it for?
The NEO PI-R can be used across a broad range of occupations for recruitment, employee development, counselling and career guidance and is especially suitable for middle to senior level management roles.
Using the NEO PI-R
In order to use the NEO PI-R, it is necessary to be qualified to BPS Level B standard and be trained specifically in this instrument. If you are already BPS Level B trained in another instrument, it is just necessary to attend the NEO PI-R Conversion course.
Alternatively Psysoft consultants will manage your assessment project administering the NEO PI-R, analysing the results and offering feedback to candidates, either face-to-face, by telephone or in writing. Usually this is undertaken alongside other assessment methods depending on the specific project.
