Training for the MSCEIT assessment

MSCEIT Certification

The Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT) is an ability-based test designed to measure the four branches of the EI model of Mayer and Salovey:

  1. Perceiving Emotions: The ability to perceive emotions in oneself and others as well as in objects, art, stories, music, and other stimuli

  2. Using Emotions: The ability to generate, use, and feel emotion as necessary to communicate feelings or employ them in other cognitive processes

  3. Understanding Emotions: The ability to understand emotional information, to understand how emotions combine and progress through relationship transitions, and to appreciate such emotional meanings

  4. Managing Emotions: The ability to be open to feelings, and to modulate them in oneself and others so as to promote personal understanding and growth

This ability-based assessment allows you to collect objective data regarding a person's emotional intelligence and can be used in a variety of settings. For example, the MSCEIT can be used in recruitment and selection, leadership development, coaching, research and education.

MSCEIT Certification Process

Our MSCEIT training includes:

  • Online Pre-Work: The pre-course modules will provide you with an understanding of the history and psychometrics of the MSCEIT as well as the MSCEIT model.

  • One-on-One MSCEIT Feedback: You will have the opportunity to take the MSCEIT prior to the course. One of our consultants will then provide you with your report and a one-to-one feedback session.

  • In-Person Course: Over 2 days you will gain a deeper understanding of the MSCEIT. Through a combination of practical exercises and discussions, we will cover the MSCEIT model and reports, interpretation of total, ability and task scores, ethical considerations, psychometrics and how to deliver feedback.

Upon successful completion of the MSCEIT exam, you will be certified to administer and interpret the MSCEIT. Qualified practitioners are provided with an online account for the MHS testing portal to administer the assessments and generate reports.
